It is a family-run 4-star of around 38 rooms on Via Cristoforo Colombo, a short walk east of Le Sirenuse on the same stretch of cliff, and it has been in the same family since 1967, when Positano's then mayor, Giuseppe Vespoli, opened it as a small guesthouse. That lineage is the point: the service is personal and remembered rather than corporate, and the couple who books here is treated as a returning guest rather than a room number. • The cliff means stairs. Positano is vertical, and Marincanto is no exception: the private beach is a staircase down and a climb back, and getting around the town involves steps. Couples with mobility limits should ask about the easiest room access and factor the terrain into the trip.
• It is a 4-star, not grand-hotel formality. You get warm, personal, family-run service rather than a large concierge team, a destination spa, or a Michelin restaurant on site. If those are central to your anniversary, a five-star on the same cliff will serve them better.
• Positano is crowded in peak. From June to August the town is busy and the streets and beaches fill with day-trippers. The private beach helps, but the walk into town and the ferries are shared with the crowd. Late May, June, and September are calmer and worth targeting.
• It is still expensive. Value here is relative to Positano's grand hotels, not to the world. Rooms start around 700 euro a night in season and the suites climb from there, so this is an affordable-for-Positano stay rather than a cheap one.
