JK Place Capri Marina Grande Michele Bonan-designed 22-room contemporary cliff-side villa

JK Place Capri

Capri's most private design hotel: 22 rooms, Michele Bonan interiors and its own beach below Marina Grande.

JK Place Capri is a 22-room Michele Bonan-designed boutique above Marina Grande, and one of the island's most private five-star stays. Book it for a contemporary-design anniversary where the intimate scale, sea-view rooms and JKitchen dinner matter more than a central Capri Town address. Our editorial score: 9.7 out of 10.

"Capri, design-led and intimate: the boutique anniversary hotel down at the harbour, not up in the crowds."

Why JK Place Capri for an anniversary

JK Place Capri is the design purist's Capri hotel. With just 22 rooms and suites, among the smallest counts of any top-tier property on the island, it trades grand-hotel scale for intimacy and a single, coherent aesthetic. The interiors are by Michele Bonan, who shaped the JK Place look across Florence, Rome and Capri, and here it runs to a calm palette of white, blue and natural wood that turns nearly every room into a photograph. The hotel sits above Marina Grande, the lower harbour where the ferry from Naples arrives, with its own dedicated beach access below. For a couple whose idea of Capri is a private, cinematic boutique rather than a bustling palace hotel, this is the call. The property has also been recognised with Three Michelin Keys, Michelin's distinction for the world's most remarkable hotels.

Sea-facing rooms carry the Bonan palette of white, blue and natural wood; most of the 22 keys face the water.

Best room to request

Aim for a sea-view category. The JK Suite, the cliff-edge multi-room flagship, is the showpiece, but a Junior Suite Sea View delivers most of the view and the Bonan design at a lower tier. Most of the 22 rooms face the water, so the meaningful upgrade is space and a private terrace rather than simply the outlook. Whatever the category, request the highest sea-view room available and confirm terrace access when you book, because the best rooms are limited and go first.

Concierge tip

Take the beach access early; the hotel's beach down at Marina Grande is quietest in the morning. Book JKitchen ahead for the anniversary dinner, as the in-house restaurant is the on-site highlight. The Faraglioni boat circuit is bookable through the front desk and runs about three hours.

Dining: JKitchen

JKitchen is the hotel's own restaurant and the natural setting for an anniversary dinner without leaving the property. The cooking is Mediterranean and seafood-led, served in a contemporary black, white and grey room with a terrace looking out to sea. It is intimate rather than a sprawling multi-venue operation, in keeping with the hotel's scale, so reserve ahead in high season. For a wider tour of the island's tables, Capri Town's restaurants are a short funicular or taxi ride uphill.

Location and getting there

Reaching JK Place is part of its character. From Naples, it is roughly a 40-minute ferry to Marina Grande, then a short transfer up to the hotel; hydrofoils also run from Sorrento. The location is the hotel's defining trade-off: you are on the quieter harbour side, private and away from the crowds, with Capri Town and the famous Piazzetta a funicular or taxi ride uphill rather than on your doorstep. Anacapri is a longer bus or taxi ride. Couples who want to step straight into the Piazzetta scene should weigh this; those who want to retreat from it will find the position ideal.

What we would change (honest cons)

No hotel is the right fit for everyone, and JK Place has clear trade-offs. The location cuts both ways: down at Marina Grande you are removed from the Piazzetta buzz, which is a drawback if a central base is what you picture. This is a small design hotel rather than a full-facility resort, so expect beach access and a compact wellness offering rather than sprawling pools and grounds. The harbour setting means the working port is nearby, busiest at peak ferry times. And like all top-tier Capri stays, rates run firmly into four figures a night in high season, so it is a splurge, not a value pick. Book it for what it is, an intimate design boutique, and it delivers; book it expecting a grand resort and you will be surprised.

The verdict

JK Place Capri earns an aggregate 9.7 out of 10 across our Room and Design, Service and Location criteria, and ranks #19 on our Top 20 Hotels on the Amalfi Coast for an Anniversary. It wins on intimacy, design and privacy; it asks you to accept a harbour-side rather than hilltop position and a boutique rather than resort scale. For a contemporary-design anniversary on Capri, it is one of the most distinctive choices on the island. Once your dates are fixed, reserve about three months out, as the sea-view suites disappear earliest and high-season inventory moves on a timescale of months, not weeks.
