The differentiator against newer Bugis stock is the heritage character. Ask for a shophouse-style heritage room or suite. The shutters and Peranakan detailing are the signature here and the single reason to choose this hotel over a glassier neighbour, and they photograph like nowhere else in the district. It is the room category the ranking rests on.
If those are unavailable, a refreshed tower room is the safe, quiet fallback with a straightforward city outlook. Because the property is being renovated in phases through 2026, it is worth asking at booking which floors and room types have already been updated, so you land in a completed room rather than one still awaiting its turn. Request a high floor away from the Middle Road frontage if street noise matters to you.
Link your Marriott Bonvoy profile before arrival, because IHG status no longer applies at this address. If you are entertaining clients, ask the concierge which restaurants are operating during the current phase of the transformation and book the table before you fly, rather than assuming a specific outlet is open.

The hotel reopened in January 2026 under the Frasers House name, keeping its address, its 406-key scale and its heritage architecture while gaining the Luxury Collection positioning and Bonvoy loyalty.
The part that matters for your booking is the phased transformation. Rather than closing, the hotel is refreshing interiors, dining concepts and public areas in stages across 2026, so the exact line-up of restaurants and lounges is a moving target. Treat any older description of a specific bar or outlet with caution and reconfirm at the time of booking. In guest feedback since the relaunch, the location and the heritage rooms draw consistent praise, while some travelers note the transition is still settling, which is exactly what a staged reflag looks like from the inside.
Frasers House earns its place on the list, but three caveats are worth naming so you book it for the right reasons.

With dates settled, book roughly twelve weeks ahead. Refreshed heritage rooms are the first to go, and during the transformation the pool of already-updated rooms is smaller than the full inventory, so early booking is doubly worth it here.
The building is open, but the InterContinental flag is gone.
