Cheval Blanc Randheli in the Maldives (2014) is a Jean-Michel Gathy composition of overwater villas around a lagoon, and Cheval Blanc Paris (2021), inside the former La Samaritaine department store on the Seine, is the newest and most urban of the group. The Riviera and Caribbean outposts, Cheval Blanc St-Tropez and Cheval Blanc St-Barth, favour a lighter, residential feel over the corporate-luxury look.
The Bvlgari portfolio and other statement buildings
Every Bvlgari hotel is an Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel design, from the original Bvlgari Milano (2004) to the 2023 openings in Tokyo and Rome. They share dark timber, brass and a clubby minimalism. Beyond the big three portfolios, the single most photographed statement building is Frank Gehry's titanium-ribboned Hotel Marques de Riscal (2006) in Spanish wine country. Marriott's EDITION line, styled by Yabu Pushelberg, and the Tony Chi-designed Park Hyatt properties round out the category with a warmer, more textural modernism.
