Sanctuary Cap Cana opened in 2007 in the Cap Cana private gated community on the eastern Dominican coast, repositioned in 2019 under Marriott's Luxury Collection brand and converted to its current adults-only all-inclusive format. The 174-room property sits on a cliffside section of Playa Juanillo, the same long white-sand crescent that runs in front of Eden Roc Cap Cana some 800 metres to the south — the most consistently beach-ranked stretch of the Dominican coast. The architectural concept, executed by the Mexican firm Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos, is a recreated Spanish-Caribbean castle: stone walls, courtyards, watchtowers, a chapel, vaulted ceilings, and a deliberately Hispano-Caribbean colour palette of ochre, terracotta, and bleached limestone. The compound reads as a single integrated castle rather than as the linked-pavilion format that characterises most Cap Cana competition.

The 174 rooms divide across Junior Suites, Sanctuary Suites, Castle Suites, and the headline Royal Suite and Presidential Suite at the upper category. Standard Junior Suites run roughly 65 square metres with king beds, marble bathrooms with separate tub and shower, and private terraces or balconies — most categories have direct sea views over Playa Juanillo. The Sanctuary Suites and Castle Suites add separate living rooms, butler service, and the larger balconies on the upper castle towers. The Royal Suite, on the upper level of the central castle tower with a private terrace and 360-degree views of the Cap Cana coastline, is the property's milestone category. The interior treatment runs warm-traditional: hand-carved Caribbean hardwood furniture, hammered-brass detailing, kilim rugs, and the heavy textiles that the brand's Spanish-castle conceit calls for. The aesthetic is firmly the opposite of the contemporary-Mediterranean restraint at neighbouring Eden Roc — visitors should choose deliberately.

The all-inclusive operation runs to twelve dining venues — a higher count than at any other DR adults-only — anchored by Blue Marlin (the beachfront seafood restaurant on Playa Juanillo), La Palapa Aroma (the lobby-level Italian and Mediterranean room), Citrus (the Asian-fusion option), and the Chapel — a small fine-dining venue inside the property's working chapel, run as a 12-seat reservation-only tasting menu. The pool operation runs three principal pools at successive elevations down the cliff, with the lower infinity pool overlooking Playa Juanillo. The Sanctuary Spa runs full Caribbean-and-Mediterranean treatments, a hammam, indoor and outdoor treatment cabanas, and a structured wellness programme that competes with the Cap Cana five-star non-all-inclusive operations.
