The value-tier base camp on Puerto Rico's north coast — clean three-star rooms, complimentary hot breakfast, an outdoor pool, and twenty minutes by road to Dorado Beach and Luis Muñoz Marín International.
"Not the brief for honeymoons. It is the brief for the family of four flying into SJU on Saturday night who need clean beds, a pool, and a hot breakfast at six the next morning before the road north to Dorado Beach."
Comfort Inn & Suites Levittown sits on Avenida del Valle in Levittown, the planned 1960s suburb on Puerto Rico's north coast in the municipality of Toa Baja, equidistant between San Juan and Dorado. The property is the Choice Hotels franchise for the corridor and one of two reliably maintained three-star addresses in the immediate Dorado catchment outside the resort cluster on the beach itself. It is unambiguously a value-tier address — included here not because it competes with the Ritz-Carlton Reserve or the St. Regis up the road, but because the price-to-cleanliness ratio is the best in the corridor for travellers whose brief is "land at SJU, sleep, drive north tomorrow."
The building runs to three storeys around a central pool deck. Rooms are the Choice Hotels standard — 280 to 320 square feet, two queens or a king, contemporary furnishings refreshed in 2022, blackout curtains, work desk, microwave and mini-fridge in every category. The Suites tier (about a quarter of the room inventory) adds a separate living room with sleeper sofa, useful for families of four or five who would otherwise need to take two rooms. Bathrooms are tile-and-tub, clean, no surprises. WiFi is included and runs at the speed expected of a US-brand franchise on the island — competent for streaming and video calls.
The food-and-beverage operation is the Choice complimentary hot breakfast — eggs, waffles, fruit, juice, Puerto Rican coffee, with limited service hours that close by 9:30 AM. There is no full restaurant on property and no bar; this is by design. The compensating factor is the immediate Levittown commercial strip: half a dozen casual restaurants and a Walgreens within a five-minute walk, and the Plaza del Norte mall (Macy's, Best Buy, twenty restaurants) a six-minute drive west on PR-22. The outdoor pool is small but well kept and open from 8 AM to 10 PM. Front-desk is bilingual English-Spanish and runs 24 hours.
The position is the entire proposition. Twenty minutes east on PR-22 puts you at the Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve gate; twenty-five minutes south-east on the same highway delivers you to Luis Muñoz Marín International. Old San Juan is twenty-eight minutes by road. For families on the budget end of the Dorado-Beach-by-day brief, for business travellers visiting the manufacturing plants along the PR-22 corridor (Bacardi's Cataño facility is six minutes east), and for arrivals who land at SJU at 10 PM and need a clean bed before driving to the resort coast in the morning, this is the practical answer in the market.
For business travel to the PR-22 manufacturing corridor — Bacardi Cataño, pharmaceutical plants in Toa Baja, the Special Economic Zone plants further west — the location is unmatched at the value tier. The Suites tier rooms function as workable home-bases for week-long visits: kitchenette, separate desk area, reliable WiFi. The Plaza del Norte mall five minutes away covers laundry, dry cleaning and groceries.
For families touring the north coast on a budget — Dorado Beach by day, El Yunque the next, Old San Juan the third — the Suites tier with sleeper sofa handles a family of four or five for half the Dorado Beach Ritz tariff. The pool covers post-beach hours; the complimentary breakfast resolves the most fraught meal of the day. The proximity to PR-22 means twenty-minute access to every major north-coast attraction.
