Eighty-seven Key West-style two- and three-bedroom townhouses on twelve oceanfront acres at Mile Marker 48.5 in Marathon — the only Middle Keys resort built as a freestanding townhouse village from the ground up, with three pools, a private 800-foot beach, and a dedicated marina.
"The Keys' most spacious family-villa proposition — eighty-seven stand-alone Key West-style townhouses on a private Marathon beach, and the only Marathon resort with separate adults-only and family pool zones from inception."
Tranquility Bay Beachfront Hotel and Resort opened in 2005 as one of the first purpose-built townhouse resorts in the Florida Keys — predating Isla Bella by fourteen years and defining the townhouse-village model that Marathon has since followed. The site at Mile Marker 48.5, occupying twelve oceanfront acres on the Atlantic side, was developed by Pritam Singh's Singh Resorts, who would later build Isla Bella four miles north on Knights Key. The two properties are sister resorts in the same ownership and management group, with Tranquility Bay holding the more residential, family-oriented positioning and Isla Bella holding the contemporary five-star envelope.
All 87 accommodations are stand-alone Key West-style townhouses — two- and three-bedroom configurations, 1,200 to 2,400 square feet, with full kitchens, multiple bathrooms, screened porches, and direct beach or pool views. The architecture is deliberately classic Conch — tin roofs, deep eaves, pastel clapboard, white-railed porches — and the townhouses are spaced for privacy across the property's twelve acres rather than stacked vertically. Every unit was refreshed in 2023 with new soft furnishings, updated kitchens, and contemporary climate control while preserving the Conch envelope. The townhouses sit on three lines — beachfront, pool-front, and garden — with the beachfront category commanding the property's strongest views.
The Butterfly Café is the resort's primary restaurant, serving Florida-Caribbean dinners with a strong raw bar and Keys-seafood menu; T.J.'s Tiki Bar runs the all-day casual program with salads, paninis, sandwiches, and cocktails on the Atlantic-facing deck. The resort does not maintain a full-service spa, but the larger Marathon spa inventory is a five-minute drive; the property's wellness proposition is anchored in the three pools, the 800-foot private beach, and the unlimited kayak, paddleboard, and bicycle program included in the resort fee. A small fitness center and a putting green round out the recreation programming.
Tranquility Bay's structural advantage is the townhouse footprint at a price point materially lower than Isla Bella or Hawks Cay villa rates: a two-bedroom townhouse at $399–$550 per night sleeps four to six and works as the structurally correct booking for any multi-generational Marathon week. The three-pool layout — main pool, adult-only pool, kids' pool — accommodates mixed-age groups without the typical pool-zone tension. The 2005 build date means the property's bones are middle-aged rather than new, but the 2023 refresh has materially improved the rooms; the price-to-square-footage ratio remains the strongest in the Middle Keys.
Tranquility Bay is structurally optimised for Keys family weeks. The two- and three-bedroom townhouse inventory — 1,200 to 2,400 square feet with full kitchens, multiple bathrooms, and screened porches — accommodates multi-generational configurations at a price point materially below Hawks Cay villas. The three-pool layout includes a dedicated kids' pool; the 800-foot private beach is shallow and protected; the unlimited bicycle and kayak program covers the older kids.
For anniversary stays the adults-only pool, the beachfront townhouse category, and the screened-porch sunset positions on the Atlantic side make Tranquility Bay a credible quieter-tier Marathon booking. The two-bedroom townhouse with second bedroom locked off (offered as a one-bedroom configuration at a discount) is the typical couples-only anniversary booking; the Butterfly Café handles the celebration dinner.
Unusually for a Marathon property, Tranquility Bay's twelve-acre footprint and three-pool layout (including the dedicated adults-only Tranquility Pool) give it a credible wellness-retreat profile. The unlimited bicycle program connects the resort to the Old Seven Mile Bridge walking path; the morning beach yoga sessions run in season; the kitchen-equipped townhouses allow clean-eating self-catering at a level the standard hotel-room properties cannot.
