The Hotel

Bahia Beach is a 483-acre former coconut plantation that was reorganised in the early 2000s as a formally designated nature reserve, an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, and the only Audubon Signature gold-certified resort in the Caribbean. The St. Regis component opened in November 2010 as the flagship of the Bahia Beach community, occupying a low-rise core building and a series of three-storey beachfront wings sited at the centre of the property's two-mile Atlantic frontage. The resort closed in 2017 following Hurricane Maria and reopened in April 2018 after a complete restoration of every public room and guest key.

The 139 keys are arranged so that every category enjoys an unobstructed garden or beach view — the property does not maintain a city-view inventory. Standard rooms run 500 square feet with private balconies, walk-in closets and dual-vanity marble bathrooms; suite categories include the St. Regis, Caribbean, Royal and Presidential, with private terraces and dipping pools at the higher tiers. The St. Regis butler service — original to the Astor family's New York property — is the central operating proposition: a butler is assigned to every key on arrival, with a single point-of-contact relationship that lasts the duration of the stay.

Dining is led by Fern, the resort's principal restaurant, designed by Jean-Georges Vongerichten when the resort opened and refreshed in 2018. Paros (Mediterranean coastal) and the Sea Grill (poolside) round out the daytime offer; the St. Regis Bar (the cornerstone of every St. Regis worldwide) runs the daily Mary Pickford cocktail ritual at sunset. The Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship course occupies the property's interior parcel and is consistently ranked among the top five Caribbean golf experiences; the Iridium Spa runs a strong wellness programme with a focus on plant-based and rainforest-sourced treatments.

In late 2024 Marriott confirmed the property's transition to Four Seasons management; under either flag, the underlying real estate — the 483 acres, the two-mile beach, the Trent Jones Jr. course, the Iridium Spa, the nature reserve setting — is the strongest non-island Caribbean luxury asset. Travellers booking under the St. Regis name should confirm at the time of reservation; the operational standard has been continuous across the brand transition. The resort sits twenty-five miles east of San Juan international, fifteen minutes from the El Yunque rainforest visitors' centre, and far enough from any commercial centre that the only ambient noise is the surf.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

For a Caribbean honeymoon where seclusion is the brief, Bahia Beach competes with Dorado's Reserve on different terms: more square footage per guest, more rainforest, less density. The Caribbean Suite category — a 1,200-square-foot beachfront key with private terrace — is the central booking. The butler arranges the El Yunque private guided hike and the Mary Pickford on the dune at sunset as standard.

Wellness Retreat

The Iridium Spa, the protected-reserve setting, and the proximity to El Yunque make Bahia Beach the strongest dedicated wellness booking in Puerto Rico. The five-day Iridium programme combines daily oceanfront yoga, a hammam-style ritual, and the rainforest waterfall hike; the resort's chef-led plant-based menu at Fern is among the best in the Caribbean for a serious detox week.

Anniversary

Anniversaries calibrate well at Bahia Beach because the butler service does the heavy organisational lifting — vow renewals on the beach with the resort's own celebrant, a private chef's table at Fern, helicopter to Vieques for a day, and the rainforest waterfall private hike are all single-call arrangements. The Royal Suite is the milestone booking.
