El Conquistador occupies the easternmost cliffs of Puerto Rico, at the tip of the Fajardo peninsula where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean. The original resort was built in 1962 as a Hilton property; reorganised in 1993 as the Williams Hospitality-developed Las Casitas Village; operated as a Wyndham flagship through the 2000s; and reopened in 2024 under Hilton's Waldorf Astoria brand after a closure during Hurricane Maria that ran more than five years. The 677 keys (rising to a planned 750 with the 2026 expansion of La Marina village) are distributed across five villages connected by funicular and minibus. Las Brisas and Las Vistas are perched on the cliff-top 300 feet above sea level, with Atlantic and Caribbean views; Las Olas steps halfway down; La Marina sits at sea level on the inner harbour; Las Casitas is the elevated private-suite-and-villa village with butler service. Standard rooms run 400 square feet with private balconies; Casitas suites run 700–1,400 square feet with separate living rooms and the option of one- or two-bedroom plans. The food and beverage programme runs more than ten outlets. Strip House (a New York steak import) is the flagship dinner room. Stingray Café is the marina-level seafood restaurant; Estrellas is the buffet venue at the top of the cliff. Drinks are organised around the Lava Lounge (cliff-top with the resort's strongest view), the Coquí Bar at the waterpark, and the Beach Bar on Palomino. The casino at 35,000 square feet is the largest hotel floor in Puerto Rico, with table games and slots running daily until 4am. The Olas Spa was completely rebuilt in 2024.
Palomino is the resort's competitive moat. The 100-acre private island sits half a mile across the Conquistador channel; complimentary ferries run every fifteen minutes from the marina; the island has its own white-sand beach (the longest on the resort), a restaurant (the Palomino Pavilion), horseback riding through the interior, a hawksbill turtle programme, and quiet snorkelling on the protected reef. The combination of Palomino, the Coquí Waterpark, the Arthur Hills golf and the casino gives El Conquistador the broadest single-resort recreation programme in the Caribbean. Position is also strong: thirty minutes from the Fajardo bioluminescent bay, forty-five minutes east of San Juan, ten minutes from the Vieques and Culebra ferry terminal.
El Conquistador is built for families that want a recreation-rich week without ever needing to leave the property. The Coquí Waterpark — fifteen slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, a Kids Klub — keeps under-twelves occupied for full days. Palomino handles the older-kid snorkel-and-horseback day. Two-bedroom Casitas suites give parents and children separate rooms with shared living. The 35-minute private boat trip to the Cayo Icacos sandbar is the day-trip everyone remembers.
